Before joining the company, Kilby served seven years as a secondary level English, speech and drama teacher. She successfully utilized Baldrige Techniques and Total Quality Management tools at
Holloway High School; one of
the few National Model Schools in the nation which serves at-risk students.
As a teacher she assisted with the creation of a faculty/staff employment manual, and served on several committees including; the Secretary’s Commission on Achieving Necessary Skills Committee, Nonsexist-Multicultural Textbook Committee for planning school district textbook standards, and the National Forensic League’s East Iowa District Committee.
While working in higher education, Kilby led key initiatives to increase the effectiveness of strategic processes at institutions by enhancing various forms of communication.
- She began her experiences in higher education as an Admissions Counselor at Bethune-Cookman College, now a University. While there Kilby increased the university’s enrollment population by 6% through effectively managing the university’s largest and most diverse recruiting territories; Dade, Broward and Brevard Counties in Florida; and the states of New Jersey and New York. Her efforts provided the university with a 59% application and acceptance rate.
She provided an innovative method for the university to present its admissions material by creating a CD presentation highlighting the university’s programs; a method of advertising which had not been attempted at Bethune-Cookman before her arrival.
- As an Admissions Representative for ITT Technical Institute, Kilby produced and implemented strategic training system and manual for incoming Admissions Representatives. In addition, she assessed and restructured the presentation materials for more effective communication during admissions presentations.
- As the Campus Information Coordinator in the University Relations department at Queens University of Charlotte, she developed and implemented a strategic plan for the main campus phone line increasing its efficiency by 35%. She spearheaded the redesign of the Queens online faculty/staff directory creating new search features and links for ease of use. Kilby has further illustrated her passion for education and learning in Charlotte by serving as a Staff Liaison for the Office of Multicultural Affairs Peer Mentor Program.
In May 2008, Kilby graduated from Queens University of Charlotte with a Master's of Arts in Organizational Communication where she served as a member of the university's Diversity Council, Staff Council and Chair of the Staff Communication's Committee.
