decided in 2002 to consolidate its
southeastern presence in a new campus in Center City Charlotte. The
new university offers degrees in Culinary Arts, Hospitality, and
Business. Jim Hance, the retired Vice Chairman of Bank of America,
is chairing the capital campaign to raise private dollars to fund a
portion of Johnson & Wales $112 million long-term investment.
Johnson & Wales recognized that, as a new Charlotte citizen, it
would benefit from Vandever Battens expertise in knowing the local
donor community. We joined the Johnson & Wales team in 2003 to
develop a campaign plan and to advise university officials as they
began to build local relationships. Based on our feasibility study
involving 50 local and national participants, recommendations were
approved to conduct a $15 million campaign to raise capital, program
and scholarship dollars.
After managing all aspects of the capital campaign planning and
implementation, Vandever Batten is now playing a campaign advisory
role in the final stages of this successful campaign for Johnson &
Wales University.

increased financial resources, up to 100 students from Charlotte’s
public housing projects will be able to attend college each year.
Vandever Batten is managing the endowment campaign and has hired
temporary campaign staff on behalf of CHASF to make the fundraising
process more manageable for the client.

overwhelmingly by 70 percent in November 1998. Ken Lewis, Chairman
and Chief Executive Officer of Bank of America, led the campaign
that raised over $13 million for endowment to support ImaginOn
